Makes sense, I guess, since Iran proper probably doesn't appreciate Wikipedia very much and can borrow Great Firewall tech from China but probably should be its own separate Persian Empire Wikiproject. In any case, if any of you can read Farsi, the history section at Rasht is a bit of a mess. The few English sources on the place's history list prior names that other English sources attribute to a different nearby city. The name is derived from textile verbs in English but an Iranian source somehow attributes it to the place's location between two rivers. &c. &c. &c. Everyone else on the English net mentioning this city seems to be copying us and our unsourced probably mistakes, so it could really benefit from some cleanup from the Encyclopedia Iranica or similar Persian sources. — LlywelynII 11:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC) Ugh... There is an EI article that covers Rasht but it apparently sucks at a historical level. It pretends the city began in the 14th century, while the article on its province notes that Muslim apostles to the area were being buried "in Rasht" in the 10th century. — LlywelynII 13:28, 8 March 2024 (UTC) Iran-related hoax?[edit]Please see Wikipedia_talk:List_of_hoaxes_on_Wikipedia#The_Encyclopedia_of_Iranian_Old_Music. For most of the elections, the results from different sources are quite different, so it would be good to have a definitive source. Cheers, Number 57 22:02, 11 April 2024 (UTC) Hello. Looking at this page, I cannot verify that this place exists. Can anyone provide a source that discusses or shows that this place exists? Thanks in advance---Steve Quinn (talk) 19:04, 13 April 2024 (UTC) I moved it to Draft space so someone can add one or two sources to make it ready for main space. ----Steve Quinn (talk) 01:46, 14 April 2024 (UTC) Requested move at Talk:2024 Iranian Strikes in Israel#Requested move 13 April 2024[edit]Requested move at Talk:2024 Iranian strikes in Israel#Requested move 14 April 2024[edit]Help needed at Abu Lu'lu'a Firuz, re addition of Persian name and concerns of circular sourcing[edit]Your input would be appreciated at Talk:Abu Lu'lu'a Firuz#Sources for the name Piruz Nahavandi. Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries. Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and climb the leaderboard. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs. Iran is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest and articles related to it are eligible to be submitted for points, so I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content! Append your name to the DCWC signup page today! The article was originally submitted as a draft to WP:AfC, but was declined. The creator then moved essentially the same declined version to the mainspace themselves, but it was draftied for the reasons given at User talk:Mr.izadpanah#Draftification of Afsaneh Salari. The creator then moved it back to the mainspace. I asked an administrator who posts at WT:AFC about this at User talk:Primefac#Afsaneh Salari and it was suggested that WP:AfD would need to be next step if the subject doesn't meet WP:N. WP:BEFORE doing that, I'd thought I see whether anyone else feels this WP:NEXISTS and just needs better sourcing (perhaps even sources not in English). -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:17, 21 July 2024 (UTC) Wikiproject[edit]Would anyone be interested in joining a sub project of WP:Anthropology on oral tradition? There's a Persian related film up for deletion and it looks like if sources do exist, they are not in English. Can someone take a look? The film in question is Nations Cultures. There's possibly nothing out there, but worth asking. Part of my reason for reaching out is that the film might not be called the same thing in Farsi, as I tried finding the film by using Google Translate and found nothing substantial. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:35, 8 November 2024 (UTC) Fixing widespread over-capitalization of "Province"[edit]It seems that we used to capitalize "Province" a lot where "province" is the more appropriate per guidelines such as WP:MOS. The titles of Iranian province articles were all fixed nearly 3 years ago per Talk:Alborz province#Requested move 24 January 2022, but there are still tons of uses, links especially, that are unnecessarily capitalized. Any objection to getting a bot working on fixing those? See discussion at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks#50K articles with over-capitalized "Province" for my proposal to do this as an AWB task. Dicklyon (talk) 16:26, 6 December 2024 (UTC) I'll take this as "no objection" to lowercase "province" generally, via bot fixing, unless someone responds soon that I should give it more time.
