Deep Duck Trouble Starring Donald Duck[a] is a 1993 platform game developed by Aspect and published by Sega for the Game Gear and Master System. The game follows Donald Duck on his journey to rescue his uncle, Scrooge McDuck, from a mysterious curse.

Gameplay

[edit]

Deep Duck Trouble is a side-scrolling platform game reminiscent of Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, as both have similar gameplay elements.

Donald's primary ways of attacking are kicking blocks (some of which contain diamonds or ice cream cones) and consuming chili peppers, which temporarily enable Donald to plow through all enemies at high speed. The player can choose map locations to begin the game. If a player loses three lives, the game is over.

Plot

[edit]

On an uncharted island a priceless golden amulet was hidden away. No one had found or knew the whereabouts of the island or the amulet until Donald Duck's uncle, Scrooge McDuck, came across an old map hidden in a book stating the location of both.[2]

Scrooge sets off on a treasure hunt, finds the amulet and brings it home with him. However, the amulet was secretly cursed so by the time he returned he had inflated like a balloon.[2]

After seeing Scrooge's condition, Huey, Dewey and Louie, Donald's nephews, call Donald for assistance. When Donald arrives he is informed about the problem from his nephews[3] and Scrooge who also asks that he return the amulet to the island in order to undo the curse.[4] Donald accepts and before he sets off on his journey is given Scrooge's diary as a means of assistance.[2][5]

Release

[edit]

In 1999, Majesco re-released this game, under license from Sega, in the United States.

Reception

[edit]

The game has received "favorable" reviews, according to Sega Magazine.[1] They game the Sega Master System version a 80% while they gave the Sega Game Gear version an 81%.[1]
