I love this stuff! Zeizmic 15:29 20 May 2003 (UTC)

I'll add external links later (maybe other people have ideas) Zeizmic 15:31 20 May 2003 (UTC)

Never having felt an earthquake in my 47 years, I wonder about the NPOV-ness of the initial statement addressed to "you". Michael Hardy 18:19 20 May 2003 (UTC)

Also needs to be internationalized. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of the subject either! Pcb21 12:39 21 May 2003 (UTC)
I don't know how to define 'most people' I have a statement that earthquakes have been felt in all 50 states, and I suppose if we include the entire world population, I'll get at least 80% who have felt an earthquake by the time they have done their 'four score'. Zeizmic 12:49 21 May 2003 (UTC)
With all this news lately, I feel sorry for the wiki and have undertaken to punch up all my previous articles to encyc. standards. I included a quote from the 1906 report, which I'm sure is in the public domain.  :) --Zeizmic 14:32, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup and improvement of article

[edit]

I have started a cleanup and improvement of this article. I will try and add the following new info and new sections within the week:

  • Details regarding building retrofitting and earthquake resistance building methods.
  • Limits to earthquake prepareness including limits to earthquake resistance building methods.
  • Cost issues with retrofitting older buildings.
  • New sections on earthquake preparedness plans by local governments. Local, state, and federal agencies designed to help prepare for earthquakes.

Note: I will add back some of the orignal material I removed that is relevent at a later time once I determine where best to place it. Also since I have little knowledge about earthquake preparedness by countries outside the US but i encourage those who have such info to add it to the article. --Cab88 20:40, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article reborn

[edit]

About 5 years ago, the article here, which had several problems, particularly a lack of citations, was replaced by a re-direct to Emergency_management#Preparedness. Well, that article has its fair share of problems too and there's plenty specific to earthquakes, so I've boldly re-created this article. I've cannibalised a bit of text from Emergency management, restored a bit from the old version of this article, and added a bunch, based on my own work in the field (I co-authored the Joffe et al. paper). I don't think the result is brilliant, but I think it's a reasonable start. I've said more about the stuff I know about, but there are other aspects that aren't covered! Everyone else, please dive in and add/edit/remove as you see fit. I'll try to do more in the coming days. Bondegezou (talk) 13:09, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
